The help menu
 

Assume that you have tried to find out how to do something by looking through the menus and have not succeeded in finding the information. Most programmes have a Help menu. It is normally found to the right of the menu options. Here is an example of the Help menu in Microsoft Word 2000 (a word processor).

              

This may look a little different in different programmes, but let's look at the Help menu in MS Word 2000, for instance. Once the menu is pulled down, click on Microsoft Word Help (this option would read Contents and Index in Word 97) as shown above.

 

The screen that appears offers you a range of topics of help. If your query is not obvious to see, click on  the Index tab (shown in the diagram above).

The index tab takes you to a simple search screen. Say, for example, that you wanted to arrange information in a table and did not know how to do it. Click on the Index tab. and type in the word "tables" as shown below.

Click on any of the displayed search topics and you will be able to read helpful directions on how to insert tables into your document.
